Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Hello Dr. Stephenson's,
I am writing this letter of appeal to hopefully get courses INDG 301, RELS 346, GPHY 351 and DEVS 364, removed from my academic record.
As a student in Indigenous Studies at Queens I have always felt very fortunate for my privilege to expand my knowledge on Indigenous cultures and ways of knowing, as has been prevalent to many of my professors and peers I love learning and my education. Throughout my life I am struggled deeply with Major Depressive Disorder, during the winter term of 2023 I went through a large episode that caused me to withdrawal from my academics, social life, and family. Due to this episode I was unable to attend classes and complete work, this started in February and continued throughout the term into the summer. I would have dropped the courses earlier, but I continually tried to believe that the work I had handed in was enough to pass. I would like to apply to teachers college next year, but I am afraid that my transcript will not be accepted due to this episode of depression, I do not find it fair that because I am a student with mental illness that I am unable to receive the same academic success as my peers.
Although I cannot retake these courses, I have presently been in discussions with my current professors on how we can work together to make sure that failure does not occur again. I cannot change the past, but I am sure that I can make the present better, that this year will be successful as I have proper supports and ability to communicate my needs better.
I hope that these circumstances are understandable, and these courses can be dropped from my transcript.
All the best,
Mack Bain

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: At the start of this term I have discussed with my professors how I can continue to build for success, examples of this are longer deadlines for assignments as well as alternative plans for participation and attendance. My academic have always been very special and important to me, I hope to continue my education successfully but in case that is difficult I am sure that these new supports will help me continue to succeed.
