Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Hello Associate Dean,

My name is Ché Breadner. I am petitioning to waive the June 13th deadline of Academic Appeals made to the Department of Arts and Science at Queen’s University.

In and around the 2023 Winter Semester, I was dealing with difficulties completing my coursework, family issues, anxiety, and depression. It was because of this difficult time that I was not able to attend to significant parts of my life including deadlines and interpersonal relationships. I did not know the deadline had passed until just recently, when I was informed by an Academic Advisor whom I sought out. I’ve greatly valued my time, coursework, and the people I’ve had the pleasure to work with here at Queen’s University, however, despite my will to succeed, and to take advantage of all Queen’s has had to offer, my personal issues have proven detrimental to my ability to live up to my potential as a student.

Nevertheless, if your understanding allows me to waive this deadline, and submit a formal appeal, I will gather the required support and resources I need to succeed here at Queen’s. First of all, I will be seeing an Academic Counsellor to keep me on track with my coursework. Secondly, I have moved back with my family to allow me to take full advantage of my support network, which will give me the understanding and accountability needed to succeed at my studies. Next, I plan to see a Psychotherapist to help me understand the mistakes I’ve made on the past, and to give me the tools I need to avoid them in the future. Finally, if I am prescribed medication, I plan to work closely with my doctor, to not only relieve symptoms, but to fully benefit from the improvement of my condition.

If granted this opportunity, I will be able, for the first time since being accepted, to take a year-long in-person course load. It is my dream that I can soon be proud of the progress I’ve made and to be able to look to the future, where I can complete my degree, and teach children, as I’ve always wanted.
