Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I am writing to request special consideration for a late withdrawal from two courses, FILM 415 and HIST 125, in light of recent, unforeseen challenges that have significantly impacted my academic performance.
As a student committed to academic integrity and success, it is with great concern that I find myself in a situation where external factors, largely beyond my control, have adversely affected my ability to meet course requirements. The ongoing global pandemic has led to severe financial instability for me and my family. This situation has compelled me to undertake multiple jobs alongside my academic responsibilities. Balancing work and studies has proven to be exceptionally challenging, and, as evidenced in the emails and other correspondence with my instructors, it has directly affected my ability to submit assignments on time.
Additionally, as an international student, I face unique challenges in managing my neurological disorder. The difficulty in acquiring appropriate medication and academic accommodations has further exacerbated my struggles, impacting my ability to keep up with the academic workload.
While I fully understand the importance of adhering to deadlines and maintaining academic rigor, the exceptional nature of my circumstances has hindered my capacity to fulfill these requirements. I kindly request the opportunity to withdraw from FILM 415 and HIST 125 with a DR (Drop) notation, rather than a failing grade, under these special circumstances.
I have previously sought assistance from the academic consideration department, but my situation was deemed ineligible for academic consideration. Following their suggestion, I am reaching out to you directly in the hope of finding a resolution.
My request is not made lightly. I am acutely aware of the implications of not completing these courses, both financially and academically. I have invested considerable time and resources into my education, and the possibility of failing these courses due to circumstances beyond my control is distressing.
I assure you that my request is made in earnest, with a clear understanding of the implications. I am not seeking to circumvent academic protocols, but rather to find a fair resolution in light of the extraordinary challenges I have faced. Your understanding and support in this matter would not only provide much-needed relief but also reinforce my commitment to my academic pursuits under more stable circumstances. As far as documentation goes, most of the documentation I have my parent's are not comfortable with sending as they contain private and confidential information regarding personal and business finances, so unfortunately I do not know what specific documentation I can provide besides my records of emails with instructors and appeals for academic consideration which were denied. I hope that regardless of this you will take my request into account.
