Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
My name is Reese Bambridge, and I am currently a 4th year Artsci student. I am writing you this letter in hopes that you will allow me to drop 3 classes (ENGL 290, ENGL 237 & DRAM 220) past the deadline.
As you can see from my previous submissions, I have not had an easy time at Queen's so far — I have dealt with a concussion and the repercussions of mental illness, particularly anxiety. However, I love Queen’s and I have refused to give up on my dream of graduating in Kingston and hopefully even fulfilling the next steps towards becoming a teacher.
Unfortunately, this past year I began dealing with OCD, which has created a barrier for me in the midst of my studies. As a result, I have had a hard time leaving the house — participating in discussion during lectures has always been one of my favourite parts of my studies; someone that could attest to this is Sabrina Masud, instructor of ENGL 237. Unfortunately, I am currently having a hard time attending lectures for the reasons stated above.
Due to these circumstances, I have decided that it is best for me and my mental health to move back home and off-campus for the time being. In the meantime, I am attending regular therapy. I love Kingston and Queen's, and I have every intention of returning. However, I need to put myself first in order to do so.
I intend to provide you with documentation from my therapist, Kate Moebus (MCP), however she is away on vacation at the moment. As soon as she returns, she has assured me that she will be sending along a letter explaining my circumstances to you.
I intend to return to my studies in the winter semester whether that be strictly online or not, as I am already enrolled in multiple online classes for next semester. Furthermore, I may even explore switching to a different major to see if I find more success and ease in something else.
I hope that you understand my situation and recognize my desire to continue my time at Queen's University.
