Subject: Petition to Drop CISC 101 After the Deadline

Dear Dean Stephenson,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to formally petition for the opportunity to drop CISC 101 after the designated deadline due to extenuating circumstances that have significantly impacted my academic performance.

During the course drop timeframe, I faced immense personal challenges related to the Israel-Gaza conflict, which deeply affected me both emotionally and mentally. I had close friends and family in Israel, and the responsibilities of organizing and supporting them during this crisis demanded a substantial amount of my time and attention. The resulting distress made it exceptionally difficult for me to focus on my academic responsibilities.

In addition to the emotional strain caused by the conflict, I experienced a physical illness that persisted for 2-3 weeks prior to the commencement of the Israel-Gaza conflict. This illness left me significantly behind in all my classes, including CISC 101. Despite my best efforts to catch up, the compounded challenges of my health and the family crisis hampered my ability to meet the academic requirements of the course.

I would like to highlight specific instances where these extenuating circumstances directly affected my academic performance in CISC 101. Firstly, I was unable to submit the first reading assignments on time, a crucial component of the course grade. Subsequently, I performed poorly on the second test due to ongoing efforts to catch up while still grappling with the effects of the aforementioned challenges.

As I approach the upcoming exam season, I am burdened with a substantial workload to catch up on in all my classes. Given the circumstances outlined above, I believe that dropping CISC 101 will allow me to allocate the necessary time and attention to my remaining courses, ensuring a more equitable opportunity to succeed academically.

I sincerely request your understanding and consideration of my situation. I am more than willing to meet with you in person to discuss my situation in greater detail if necessary.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I appreciate your understanding of the challenges I have faced and your support in finding a resolution to this matter.

Sincerely,

Grayson Brodie-Foy
