Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am petitioning for a late drop from the course of FREN 230 (Fall 2023).
I trust this letter finds you well. I am writing to discuss a matter regarding my current enrollment in the French course FREN 230. Initially, I was enthusiastic about continuing my pursuit of French language studies, believing it would be a valuable addition to my academic journey and personal growth. However, as the semester progressed, I found myself facing increasing challenges in grasping the course content. Despite my initial confidence and efforts to keep up with the material, I have come to the realization that I am struggling to maintain a clear understanding of the coursework.
In reflection, I recognize that my other courses are progressing reasonably well, and I am committed to maintaining a strong academic record. Unfortunately, my performance in the French course has not met my expectations, and I am concerned that it may negatively impact my overall GPA. As you are aware, maintaining a competitive GPA is crucial for various future opportunities and endeavors.
Given the circumstances, I am writing to request a late drop of my enrollment in the current French course. I believe that taking this step will not only allow me to focus on my other courses but also provide me with the time and space needed to reassess my readiness for the French curriculum. I am committed to returning to this course at a later date when I am better prepared and confident in my ability to succeed. I am committed that when I return to French that I will set myself up better, by getting a tutor for French from the start. As well as, going forward into the Winter semester continuing a weekly check-in with Carleigh Collins.
I want to assure you that this decision is not made lightly, and I am fully aware of the implications it may have on my academic progress. However, I believe that taking a step back now will ultimately contribute to my long-term success in this course and prevent a potentially detrimental impact on my overall academic performance.
