Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Hello After a year of mental health problems including, insomnia, anxiety attacks, depressive thoughts and suicidal thoughts. I used my summer to find a better place for myself mentally. I started exercising, going to more counselling and finding more activities to bring joy back into my life. For the first time since the before COVID I was excited to go back to class. Ask classes began I got word that my Grandmother (Nunni) had to go to the hospital due to pain in her back and drops in her oxygen levels. I was informed she would be out of the hospital in a couple of weeks and all would be well. the middle of September I received a call informing me she was diagnosed with stage 4 bone cancer and may not make it to Christmas. I moved back to Toronto for the month of November the last few months she had with her, and help out my mother who was distraught. I too was very distraught, and have had multiple spikes in stress and anxiety which affected my abilities to function. I focused my time and energy through this time, focusing on my Nunni and my family was not able to complete academic tasks to the best of my ability. In many cases I was submitting work late and poorly done or unable to complete weekly lecture work and keep up in classes. My Nunni Passed away October 18th, 2023 and her funeral was the 23rd of October. Since then I have been home with my family pack up her belongings and take care of my grandfather. I to have been suffering with mental health and my insomnia and anxiety has returned. I am attempting to catch up in some of my classes with the final goal of graduating this upcoming semester. Unfortunately after a month of missed classes and assignments I feel I will not be able to resubmit and catch up in all my classes to produce and adequate grade and I petition the university to allow me to drop the following classes
