Petition Letter: This class had two midterms. I received a 55% on one and a 39% on the second one. For the first one, I had not set up the accommodations yet, so I mistakingly thought that was why I received a poor grade. The class average for the first midterm was 61, so I thought there was potential for me to improve. However, with the additional accommodations, I still struggled to memorize the vast amount of material required to perform well on the second midterm, which resulted in my failure. This class is heavily biology-based, and I have no science background, making it difficult to memorize and learn the material. Due to my diagnosed ADHD and anxiety, studying can pose a tough challenge. Currently, I have a 47% in the class, and the exam is worth 42%, yet I do not believe that I can memorize the material, and due to my precarious situation in this course, I will have too much anxiety to write the exam. Last year, I did not have any midterms, yet this year, due to being a psychology major, I had more than five between my classes. This created immense anxiety for me, and I struggled to manage my time effectively. Now, I am experiencing a similar issue with finals, and failing this class is increasing my anxiety tremendously, impeding me from focusing on studying for my other courses. Therefore, I ask for your compassionate consideration and response to my request to drop this course, PSYC 271, after the drop date. In future, I will not make this same mistake again, and I will always ensure that if I have below a 60 in a class, I drop it before the drop date.
