Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean (studies),
I am appealing to have my failing mark in PHYS 117 dropped from my transcript. I hadn't been doing very well in physics first term and had managed to get a tutor for second term; however, at the beginning of April 2015, I started to get very sick with pneumonia and was admitted to the hospital twice. As my PHYS 117 exam was my last exam, I hadn't done any studying for it prior to getting sick and my illness made it nearly impossible for me to sleep, breathe and eat - let alone study. I also suffer from severe asthma, which made the pneumonia symptoms even worse. On April 10th, the night of my BIOL 103 exam, I was admitted to the hospital after suffering a severe attack that caused me to stop breathing. I was able to postpone my BIOL 103 and CHEM 112 exams until September; however, I believed that having to study for 3 exams over the summer would be overwhelming as I was also enrolled in PSYC 100 online for the summer. Unfortunately, my symptoms didn't improve for April 20th and I wrote the PHYS 117 exam and left within the first 30 minutes as my coughing and chest pain was becoming too intense. In the future, I plan to ensure that I talk with all of my professors if I am sick and make arrangements before it is too late. I am not sure if requesting for aegrotat standing applies for me; however, I would be very appreciative of any accommodations that could be made.
Sincerely,
Lara Milliken
