Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I am writing this letter to petition for remaining in the Queen’s University Wind Ensemble as a course for credit.
At the start of the semester, I registered to be in the course for credit similar to how I had done last year. In the same way as last year, I registered for the course however students themselves cannot automatically add it to their schedules, as the course requires an audition for admittance. After my successful audition, a list of the students taking the course for credit was to be sent to Administration so that the course would be added to our schedules. It appears that this year that list of names taking the course for credit was not delivered to Administration and therefore I was not officially registered in the course for credit. I have only recently become aware of this error.
I had thought I was registered in the course for credit because at the start of the semester, a form was passed around for students to sign if they were NOT taking Wind Ensemble for credit. This was to identify those who would be sent a separate invoice by the Dan School of Drama and Music for non-academic participation in the course. I did not sign this form seeing as how I was taking the course for credit. When I recently received an invoice for participation I realized an error had been made. This is what prompted me to go to the office in Harrison-LeCaine Hall and inquire what are the next steps to rectify this error. I was informed by administrative staff that due to it being the end of term, the course cannot be added to my schedule for credit but rather that I must petition to remain in the course for credit. The course instructor, Dan Tremblay, has all of the records of my attendance to the rehearsals as well as the final performance on November 27, 2023.
Additionally, as a Concurrent Education student in the Intermediate/Secondary (IS) stream, I have identified music as my second teaching subject. Thus, I require the course to help towards the credit requirements of my second teachable and hence why I registered for credit.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me and I sincerely hope we can resolve this misunderstanding.
Kind regards,
Lauren Patterson
