Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to appeal my academic withdrawal from Queens University. I was not surprised, but very upset to receive a letter earlier this week informing me of my mandatory withdrawal. I would like to urge you to reinstate me for next semester.
I admit, I had a very difficult time adjusting to Queens initially, and my grades suffered as a result. I don't mean to make excuses for my poor academic performance, but I would like to explain the circumstances. During my first year at Queens, I was wrapped up in the freedom I was exposed to and was involved into some inappropriate substances. Of course, I paid the repercussions of my actions with severely poor grades and was required to withdraw for a year. After the year had passed, I created clear plans for myself for the following semesters which consisted of retaking two-thirds of the failed courses and then retaking the courses that I had poor grades in the following year. I also had planned to take a lighter course load to get myself back into the habits required to succeed.
However, midway through the year, I had realized that my failures and poor grades from first semester might still drag my grade point average down below the 1.6 threshold due to the fact that I had only taken 18 credits and repeated only 2 classes unless I was able to have straight 4.0 average for the semester. I started to develop anxiety and my grades went from manageable B to a mediocre C average. In retrospect, I should have just retaken all my courses from first year and boost my average. I can only blame myself for not taking the time to sit down with an academic counsellor for that.
I love Queens University, and it would mean so much to me to graduate with a degree from this school. If I am reinstated, I will focus much better on my school work and retake courses from first year that was hindering my average. I will also meet up with an academic counsellor and ask their opinions of how to proceed with my undergraduate career. I know that I am capable of success in Queens with my average improvement, However, I fell shy of the threshold and my academic plans fell apart.
Please understand that my low GPA that led to my withdrawal does not indicate that I am a bad student. I understand that I am not capable of being a model A+ student, however I feel that I can definitely succeed and hold up to the standards set by Queens University. Really, I'm a good student who had a very unfortunate semester. I understand these are not extenuating circumstances in the manner that was requested but I hope you will give me a second chance. Thank you for considering this appeal.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: To: Whom it may Concern,
After realizing my previous mistakes; I've outlined a new academic plan for the upcoming year.
First and foremost, I would retake all my courses from first year that I had previously failed or scored a low mark in to boost my gpa above 2.5 threshold. This would lift me off probation and would allow me to comfortably study in the field I would like to graduate from.
My second plan, is to create smaller detailed oriented goals to keep me motivated to succeed. This would include creating small goal such as trying to achieve at least a B- in a subject that I would have difficulty in; or to clinch an A+ in a class that I would be excelling at.
My final goal for the upcoming year to request help from tutors, peers and proctors whenever in need of guidance along with sitting down occasionally with academic counsellors to see re-evaluate plans when needed or whenever I feel out of track and in need of guidance.
I feel if I work diligently and put my effort into shaping up and asking for help when needed, I can succeed.
