Petition Letter: Dear Dean,

I am reaching out to request a consideration for my withdrawal from CISC251, under Student ID number 20230659.

In the Fall of 2023, I encountered a series of unforeseen extenuating circumstances that have significantly impeded my academic performance. The Covid-19 pandemic led to stringent restrictions in my hometown in China, confining me to my apartment for approximately three months. This situation prevented me from arriving in Canada for the Fall 2021 semester and subsequently caused my visa to expire, requiring me to begin the application process anew. It was not until the Fall of 2022 that I was able to set foot in Canada.

From January 2020 to September 2022, my academic pursuits were relegated to a home environment, which presented considerable challenges and led to feelings of isolation. This drastic change in my learning conditions has been detrimental, altering my approach to studying and impacting my mental well-being. My previous academic record includes graduating high school with nine AP scores of 5 and a GPA of 3.8. Currently, however, I find myself struggling to achieve A in my classes and to maintain focus.

To compensate for the units, I missed over the last three years, I enrolled in six classes this semester. Despite my diligent efforts, the workload has proven to be overwhelming, and I have not been able to keep up with all the courses, resulting in some unsatisfactory grades. This has led me to the difficult decision to request a drop from this class.

I am committed to providing any further information needed to support my petition. I deeply appreciate your time in reviewing my situation and your understanding of the difficulties I've faced.
