Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to address my current academic situation in BIOL 103 and to request your understanding and assistance regarding my circumstances.
Over the past few months, unforeseen and challenging circumstances have significantly impacted my ability to fully engage in the course. Regrettably, due to my mother's critical illness from life-threatening sepsis and my personal diagnosis of stage 1 kidney failure leading to an critical infection requiring hospitalization, I have faced immense challenges that have disrupted my academic routine.
As you are aware, these conditions are not only physically demanding but have also taken a considerable toll on my mental and emotional well-being. Despite my dedication to keeping up with the coursework while hospitalized, the gravity of these circumstances led to my absence from class for more than a month, and intermittent days of absence thereafter.
I deeply value the education I am receiving at Queens and hold great respect for the subject matter covered in BIOL 103. However, as much as I have strived to manage my responsibilities, the magnitude of these unexpected health crises has made it exceedingly difficult for me to maintain the academic standard required to excel in the course.
I understand the importance of meeting academic commitments and the impact that missed assignments and class sessions may have on my overall performance. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience my absences may have caused and assure you that it was not a decision made lightly.
In light of these exceptional circumstances and the challenges I have faced, I am kindly requesting your consideration in allowing me to drop BIOL 103 from my current course schedule without penalty. I believe that this action would enable me to focus on prioritizing my health and well-being while ensuring that I am better positioned to re-engage with academic pursuits in subsequent semesters.
I have provided necessary documentation for my multiple academic consideration requests that have been granted. I am sincerely grateful for your understanding, empathy, and support during this challenging time.
Thank you for taking the time to review my request.
