Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To Whomever it may concern:

I am requesting to appeal for Aegrotat standing in GNDS 125, which I took in the Fall semester of 2014.
On August 2nd 2014, I was sexually assaulted by a man who was drunk and broke into my (at the time) boyfriend¿¿s house. I was sleeping on a couch naked (something I usually do), and he began to assault me while I was asleep. After I woke up, the man who was assaulting me did not leave voluntarily and was forcibly escorted outside by my boyfriend of the time. I reported this incident to the police and have been dealing with the consequences of his actions since.
On December 2nd, 2014 I had to appear in court in Walkerton, Ontario to testify in the court of law against Marshall Fischer. I left Kingston on Wednesday, November 26th 2014 to attend a pre-trial meeting prior to the court date. My GNDS 125 exam was on Friday, December 12th at 9:00am, however I was unable to write the exam at the time, due to the circumstances. Not only was I preoccupied preparing for court (i.e. pretrial meetings) in a different town, but I was also preparing to face the man who had assaulted me just three months prior.
Following this incident, I did not initially submit an appeal because of the amount of stress I was experiencing at the time. I live in a very small town, and I still experience anxiety every day I am outside due to the constant threat of running into Marshall (who also lives and works in Chesley, Ontario). I stayed in Chesley following the trial for Christmas holidays and after this time, I felt too overwhelmed with school, work, and anxiety to sit down and submit this appeal. I ended up having to quit work because of the ongoing mental health problems I was experiencing at the time. Thus, I am also requesting to waive the 21-day appeal deadline, as the consequences of this extenuating circumstances were unintended and unwarranted.
Attached is a letter from the Ministry of the Attorney General confirming my attendance at the Walkerton Courthouse on December 2nd, 2014 in the matter of R. v. Marshall Fischer.
The ruling court date is set for early September of this year. I am hoping that this will be the last time I will have to face Marshall for the rest of my life and I hope that the justice system prevails in this case.
I am continuing to work on overcoming the effects that this incident has had on my mental health. Last semester, I joined the sexual assault support group, PegASUS and was impressed and comforted by the support available at that time on campus. It is my intention to continue to attend PegASUS meetings in the Fall 2015 semester (if they will still occur) in an effort to continue to work on overcoming this traumatic incident.
