Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Dr Jenn Stephenson,
I am writing this letter to request a Credit standing designation for my GPHY 247 Intro to Statistics course. During the Fall 2023 term I found myself severely affected by my mental and physical health. I have diagnoses of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety and depression and during the last term all these illnesses made it very hard for me to get assignments done let alone get out of bed. I also was very ill with a respiratory virus for a few weeks. All of this combined made it very hard for me to focus or delegate time to my classes. I spent my time focusing on the courses that aligned best with my academic goals and even that proved to be quite the challenge.
I am petitioning to have this course, GPHY 247 Intro to Statistics, be granted a Credit standing designation. The mark I received in this course is far lower than I normally receive. The last term was a really rough time for me mentally and physically and I am still dealing with the ongoing impacts of it right now. I feel that my performance last term is not indicative of my academic ability as I was severely impaired by my disabilities. I am now working with QSAS and have set up an accessibility plan with them to help alleviate the strain caused by my disabilities. I am petitioning to have this mark changed to a CR on my school transcript so that the course is counted towards the units I need for graduation but does not impact my GPA. I need to use my official transcript to apply for SWEP positions, other jobs and potentially post-graduate studies and I would not want this mark to affect my future opportunities because of a period of time where I was dealing with disabilities.
I would be more than happy to provide you with any necessary documentation from my doctor for proof of these issues.
With thanks,
Gavin Cordon
