Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Academic),

I registered in LAW 201 Introduction to Canadian Law and LAW 204 Corporate Law for 2023 Fall term. I am petitioning to drop LAW 201 (Fall, 2023) and LAW 204 (Fall, 2023).

I have been suffering from severe anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. I have been in medical treatment for a long time. This disability severely damaged my focus, concentration and understanding ability. I also suffered terrible thoughts and a lack of attention due to traumatic memories.
However, since the beginning of 2023, my situation has gotten worse, and I barely have waking time during the day and night. I have been suffering from Paroxysmal hallucinations and narcolepsy, which impediment my everyday functions. To get better treatment, I registered in the hospital from April 2023 to October 2023. When I was in the hospital, I was unable to get in touch with any electronic devices, so I was unable to start my study for LAW 201 and LAW 204.

When I was discharged from the hospital on November 1st, I immediately contacted the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and my instructors. Till then, I was too behind on the materials to start the study. Emma Battersby from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Student Services Division regrettably told me that October 30th is the last date to drop fall term classes without faculty office permission, and till then, the only option for me is to petition for the late drop, although it was only a day late. Instructors told me that they couldn't place my courses as IN unless I only left one or two weeks incomplete, and the only option for me was to petition for the late drop. Luckily, my instructors and faculty of law are willing to support my petition. Now, I don't need to stay in the hospital, so my studies will not be discontinued in the future. However, due to the ongoing symptoms, I could not finish LAW 201 and LAW 204 in one month. To better accommodate me with my study under the disability, I would request a Late Drop for both LAW 201 and LAW 204. Based on the Doctor's suggestion, I would enroll and finish LAW 201 and LAW 204 in the following terms.

I hope you can understand my extenuating situation and grant my late drop petition.
Thank you very much!

Best,
Zheng Li
