Petition Letter: Dear Dr, Jenn Stephenson,
I am submitting this petition to remove a non-passing grade mark for Cognitive Psychology 221 from my final transcript and grade point average to ultimately lead to a better future. This lack of succession is not due to the professor or class persay, and although the content was interesting, I found it was not what I wanted to pursue. This failure could be seen as a blessing in disguise as it concludingly helped me decide to go against my original plan to become a psychology major. I stayed in the course because I was hoping to improve and continue to learn, with naive optimism.
My individualized education plan (IEP) and disability claims my personal recommendation of full time schooling is three courses. I wanted to push myself because I was successful in the first term (Fall 2022) taking four courses and also because I still had believed at the time that psychology was my desired majoring department. Beyond believing the course load was doable, I truly believe I attempted my best I could do for the semester, while dealing with a death in the family, along with struggling with my remission to sobriety.
I am extremely happy to announce that I was accepted into the sociology department for my major, as my career goal falls along the lines of the quality of life for individuals amongst various demographics. The last of my electives available will be in consideration to additionally further pursue humanities, religions and cultures, and geographical courses to support my field of knowledge for my selected career path. I am positive I will be successful in sociology with the support system and self growth I have made throughout the past few months.
QSAS, Jenna Kring at Queens, and Dr. Jocelyn Howard at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Hospital are the wonderful women and team to which I owe much thanks as they have kindly offered assistance to me on multiple occasions and advocacy if difficult circumstances arise again. I mention these women as evidence that I am attempting to build a better version of myself for my future and as a representative of Queens University. Everyday will continue to be a battle for me for the rest of my life as someone who identifies as disabled indigenous with substance abuse and mental health issues, and I will continue to need support through my schooling years. This appeal to defer my wrongdoing will support me and my chance to improve my education at Queens as well as my future. Please allow me the opportunity to prove I am capable of doing better.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Heather Macnab
