Petition Letter: Hello,
At the time, I wasn’t aware that we could turn grades into a Pass/Fail instead of a letter grade. My first year being Fall 2019/Winter 2020, it was a weird time for everybody. For me, I moved across the country to come to Queen’s not knowing anybody and it was a really tough adjustment for me, coming to a new place and essentially having to start my life over again by making new friends and adjusting to university life. It was a challenging time for me mentally which thus led to poor grades and habits. I was ready to pack up and go home and give up on school but I stuck it out and my grades did suffer but I couldn’t live with the possibility of dropping out of University. The Winter 2020 semester I barely left my residence for things other than going to the cafeteria or class, but my grades didn’t get any better, I was in a bad place mentally and incredibly homesick. I stayed home for the Fall 2020 semester which I think was good for me and it helped me develop new habits. When I came back for the Winter 2021 semester, I fell back into old habits and again my grades suffered as my mental state was just not right. I know I’m well past the deadline but I talked to an academic advisor about this and she mentioned it was worth a shot, I really want to apply to law school and if there is anyway that granting the eligible grades into a Pass/Fail grade to possibly my GPA go up, or even stay the same but without that “C-, or D” grade next to the course. I would be extremely thankful.
Sincerely,
Pierce Brooks
