Petition Letter: Last year I took the first number theory course, MATH 311 and I loved it. I also did very well in the course and ended with 100%. When it was time for course selection I didn't think I wanted to go to math grad school so it didn't matter too much which courses I took. However now I want to go to grad school, specifically for the field of number theory, so it is very important that I take the second number theory course MATH 418. I spoke with the course instructor Professor Ram Murty as well as the department head Professor Professor Peter Taylor and they fully support my decision to take this course. During my conversation with Professor Peter Taylor emphasized his confidence that with hard work I will be able to succeed in the course as well as the importance that I take this course for credit in order to get into number theory grad school programs.
Academic Plan
Academic Plan: The midterm for this course is after reading week, so all I've missed so far is one assignment. Over reading week I will spend everyday learning the material and completing the assignment so that when I get back I'll be all caught up and ready to take the midterm with the rest of the class. I know it will require lots of effort to switch in this late, but I am a very hard working and capable student, which is reflected in my 4.3 gpa. Also a lot of the material from the beginning of the class is review from MATH 311, a course I took last year and ended with 100%. This means that I have strong background knowledge for this courses material so it will be quicker for me to catch up. I spoke with both the course instructor Professor Ram Murty and the department head Professor Peter Taylor. They know me as a student (I've previously taken a course with both of them) and they are confident that I will be able to succeed in this new course.
