Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Dean,

I'm writing to respectfully request academic consideration due to unforeseen challenges that significantly impacted my performance in the 2022/2023 academic year. While I dedicated myself to my studies, personal and health issues beyond my control significantly set back my academic capabilities.

Throughout the year, I struggled with undiagnosed Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This severely affected my focus, time management, and overall academic performance. I wasn't diagnosed and treated until the year's end. This meant I lacked the necessary support and strategies, leading to subpar academic results. I have documentation from my doctor confirming the diagnosis and treatment timeline.

On top of dealing with an undiagnosed ADHD, things at home were pretty rough during that time. Dad was out of the country for a period of time, and I ended up having to step up a lot more around the house. Taking care of my siblings and mom on top of everything else at school was a massive challenge. I barely had any time or energy left to focus on myself or even find the help I knew I needed.

These unforeseen circumstances profoundly impacted my academic performance. My ability to engage with coursework and utilize academic resources was severely compromised. However, since receiving my diagnosis and treatment, along with adjusting to my family's situation, I've seen a remarkable improvement in my grades in the 2023/2024 academic year. This improvement reflects my true potential and commitment when provided with a more supportive environment.

I took the initiative to overcome these challenges, balancing my academic commitments with my family duties to the best of my ability. However, the situation drained me emotionally and physically, contributing to feelings of isolation during this critical first year.

Given these unforeseen circumstances, I kindly request an academic appeal (Credit standing), acknowledging the significant impact these uncontrollable factors had on my academic performance. I remain fully committed to my academic success and have taken proactive steps to ensure I am better equipped to achieve my educational goals, as evidenced by my recent academic improvements.

I appreciate your consideration of my request and am happy to provide any additional information or documentation necessary. Thank you for your understanding and support during this challenging time.
