Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Wanda, and I am a fifth-year student in the Faculty of Arts & Science, currently enrolled in HSCI 270-002. I am writing to formally request to drop this course due to several reasons that I would like to bring to your attention.

Firstly, I no longer require HSCI 270-002 for my academic pursuits. Initially, I enrolled in this course because a master's program I applied to (Social Work at Western University) required a methodology course. However, I regret to inform you that my application to that program was recently rejected, which is already past the deadline for dropping courses. On the bright side, I have been accepted by another institution for a master's program (Social Work at UofT) that does not necessitate this specific course.

Secondly, I find myself in an overwhelming academic situation this semester. With a total of six courses on my plate, the workload has become exceedingly heavy. Balancing this workload poses a significant risk to my GPA, as I fear that my performance in HSCI 270-002 may suffer due to spreading myself too thin across multiple subjects.

Lastly, as per the university's regulations, HSCI 270-002 can only count as my elective credit. However, I have already fulfilled the required elective credits for my graduation purposes. Continuing in this course would, therefore, be redundant and not contribute to my academic progression.

In light of these circumstances, I kindly request your understanding and approval to drop HSCI 270-002 from my current semester's schedule. I assure you that this decision is not taken lightly, and I have carefully considered the implications on my academic path.
