Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To the Office of the Associate Dean (Academic)

I am appealing to have CHEM/ENCH 212 dropped from my transcript due to extenuating circumstances beyond my control.

At the beginning of the Fall 2023 semester an accident took place that resulted in extenuating circumstances beyond my control. During this time, I was overwhelmed with stress and sadness that impacted my ability to sleep, my appetite, and drastically increased my anxiety. The stress of doing poorly in this class added onto the existing stress resulting from the accident. Because of this I failed CHEM 212 regardless of my efforts to regain focus on my studies. I have dealt with extreme issues focusing in the past due to ADHD, so this event worsened my troubles. The reason that this class specifically was impacted is because I devoted my remaining time and energy to my other classes and wasn’t able to perform in CHEM 212. I did not handle this matter shortly following the accident due to the extreme state of stress I was under. I am planning to retake this course next year when it is offered again but I would like for the existing grade to be removed from my transcript.

In order to ensure these issues to not arise again I have taken many steps including visiting student wellness services. On February 1st, 2024 I visited SWS and received documentation of the impacts of this accident which is attached below. Student wellness services and external mental health services have enabled me to develop the skills required to manage stress in the future and move forward. I will continue to use these skills to ensure that this issue does not arise again in the future.
