Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello Associate Dean,
My name is Ché Breadner. I am petitioning to waive “ENGL 100 Introduction to Literary Study”, and requesting credit standing in “GPHY 102 Physical Geography” and, “GPHY 101 Human Geography” due do extenuating circumstances that I will outline.
Starting around the 2021 Winter Semester, I was dealing with difficulties completing my coursework, family issues, anxiety, and depression. These issues weighed on me greatly until I began getting medical support during Summer of 2023. It was because of this difficult time that I was not able to attend to significant parts of my life including deadlines and interpersonal relationships. I’ve greatly valued my time, coursework, and the people I’ve had the pleasure to work with here at Queen’s University. However, despite my will to succeed, and to take advantage of all Queen’s has had to offer, my personal issues have proven detrimental to my ability to live up to my potential as a student.
Nevertheless, if your understanding allows me to waive these courses, I will utilize the support and resources I required and gathered to succeed here at Queen’s. First of all, I will be seeing an Academic Counsellor to keep me on track with my coursework. Secondly, I moved back with my family to allow me to take full advantage of my support network, which will give me the understanding and accountability needed to succeed at my studies. Next, I have been seeing a Psychotherapist to help me understand the mistakes I’ve made on the past, and to give me the tools I need to avoid them in the future. Finally, I have been taking medication which has been prescribed to me by my doctor, whom I have been closely working with, to not only relieve symptoms, but to fully benefit from the improvement of my condition.
If granted this opportunity, I will be able, for the first time since being accepted, to take a year-long in-person course load. It is my dream that I can soon be proud of the progress I have made and to be able to look to the future, where I can complete my degree, and teach children, as I’ve always wanted.
Sincerely,
Ché Elijah James Breadner
