Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Academic, Dr. Jenn Stephenson,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to formally petition for the dropping of all my courses from the winter term of 2024; ENGL200, ECON111, and ENSC201 after the drop date and to discontinue this semester due to severe ongoing mental health issues. I recently was granted permission to drop ECON112 and shortly after realized I am in no condition to successfully complete the term at all.
Throughout this semester I have struggled with the relapse of an eating disorder fueled by anxiety. I sought out help in many forms, I communicated with my support team and came up with a treatment plan. Since then, I have been experiencing a grueling adjustment to an SSRI medication. Due to the side effects of fatigue and depression in combination with my ongoing struggles, it was exceptionally hard to keep up with coursework and attend classes. As a result I do not believe I will be able to successfully complete my exams, and I fear my performance in my classes this semester would not accurately reflect my capabilities or serve my academic progression.
In consideration of my well-being and my academic future, I made the difficult decision to transfer to Dalhousie University next year. Being closer to my family and mental health team is essential for my recovery and success. I am committed to getting better and I know that this petition will help by allowing me extra time and alleviating a little bit of stress. I kindly request your understanding and compassion in granting my petition to drop all courses for this semester.
I have attached the appropriate documentation from Student Wellness in support of this petition. Finally, I thank you and Queen’s Student Wellness for the ongoing support I have received during my time here. I greatly appreciate your time and consideration in this matter.
Warm Regards,
Elizabeth Vance Gray, 20323378
