Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing to formally request a late course drop of [PHIL 266 Probability & Inductive Logic W24] for the reason that there are some special conditions that have hindered my academic success greatly. To start with, I intend to highlight the negative impact of the severe abdominal disease, which had to be medically treated, and in effect, I could not participate actively in the full course tasks.


On the 7th of February, I started feeling severe stomachaches that continued progressing, forcing me to go to the city of Toronto to search for a physician. As evidence of the disease, I have attached a doctor’s note mentioning the diagnosis and almost suggesting to avoid overexerting oneself and supervised medical monitoring during the recovery period. This disease has without a doubt altered my everyday being and disrupted me academically, including my attendance at lectures. I have also been in a position where I can’t participate in the conversation or lectures of the course.


Juggling my health and academics has become a challenge even after I made my best effort to participate in the course. I normally overdo it to cope with the pain and the restrictions caused by my illness. To my distress, I have to report that I could not maintain the academic proficiency and the provision standards that are expected from this course.


Given these severe conditions, I politely request that you allow me to withdraw from the course. I would insist on explaining that I spent a lot of mental effort concluding that being away was the best choice for me to have collateral, and my goals remained the same. I am aware of the far-reaching results of dropping a course and, hence, ready to take the appropriate measures to prevent any further adverse academic consequences that may arise after this decision.
