Petition Letter

Petition Letter: In 2022 I unfortunately dealt with a sexual assault case on Queen's campus and shortly after have been in contact with Barb Lotan as well as the other resources available to my disposition. Evidently, it did take a toll on my mental health and have since been dealing with feelings of anxiety. After the first year of the incident, I have handled myself pretty well given the circumstances and have felt pretty much normal for a lack of better words.

Unfortunately around the middle of my last semester (Winter 2024) a certain situation lead to being reminded of the incident and I found myself having difficulty studying, meeting deadlines and focusing on my school work. This went on for a couple of weeks where I found myself having difficulty doing the basics such as getting out of bed in the morning or trying to get physical activity 3 times a week. Up until April i realized this was taken a bigger toll on my mental health and affecting my education as i had difficulty concentrating in school and lost all motivation. I decided to reach out again to Barb Lotan and set up meetings with one of the Sexual Violence therapist on campus as i did not want to completely give up.

I had to unfortunately miss some of my exams as I was not in the correct headspace to take them and decided to go home for a while. I was granted an exam deferral period for some of my exams but not all hence, in a better head space I wanted to make up for the credits that I had missed.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: To achieve academic success, I now take regular therapy sessions from Queens to ensure I am taking the steps necessary to get better. I plan on focusing on doing one class per day and am trying to use methods I have learned in therapy to keep me motivated and on time with my deadlines.

I will also rely on a stronger support system as I am back at home with my family and am able to complete the work being comfortable and feeling safe at home.

This will allow me to succeed in my future studies as I can go on to graduate in the Fall of 2024 as I had intended before the challenges in my mental health and hopefully allow me to be hopeful for the future.
