Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Arts and Science Office:

My name is Nathan, and I am writing to formally request an academic petition to exchange my FILM 395: Internship course for MAPP 395: Internship in this Summer 2024 term. This request is necessitated by a significant change in my internship role and supervisor.

Initially, my internship was with the Kingston Canadian Film Festival, where I had arranged for my part-time employer to act as my supervisor for the internship. However, I have decided to pursue a more challenging opportunity that better aligns with my personal and professional growth goals. Consequently, I have secured a position with the FOLDA Festival, an innovative theater festival curated by Queen’s professor and associated with the Dan School of Drama and Music and the Department of Film and Media.

I apologize for passing the normal course add/drop deadline. The second work opportunity at the FOLDA Festival was presented to me only recently, after the deadline had already passed. Given the enhanced scope and relevance of this new position, I believe it would be highly beneficial for my academic and professional development.

Prof. Michael Wheeler, my new employer and supervisor at the FOLDA Festival, has kindly agreed to supervise my internship. I am confident that this new role will be more beneficial to my academic and professional development, as it aligns more closely with my program (MAPP).

I respectfully request your approval of this petition to allow me to switch my internship course to MAPP 395. Your consideration of this request is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and understanding.

Sincerely,
Nathan Zhe

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: To ensure my academic success following this change, I have developed a comprehensive plan.

First, I will maintain regular meetings with Prof. Wheeler to monitor my progress and receive ongoing guidance throughout the duration of the internship. These meetings will be scheduled on a bi-weekly basis to ensure that I am consistently on track with my internship objectives and learning outcomes. During these sessions, we will review my work, discuss any challenges I am facing, and set goals for the upcoming weeks. This structured approach will help me stay focused and make the most of the learning opportunities available through this internship.

Second, I will document the total number of hours I achieve in this internship job. This will involve keeping a detailed log of my daily activities and hours worked, which will be submitted periodically to both Prof. Wheeler and my course instructor. By meticulously tracking my hours and tasks, I can provide a clear record of my commitment and contributions. This documentation will also help me reflect on my experiences and identify areas where I can improve or seek additional learning opportunities.

Third, I will balance my summer courses, part-time job, and internship effectively to adjust to a new work-life balance for this summer term. I will create a detailed schedule that allocates specific times for my coursework, internship responsibilities, and part-time job duties. Additionally, I will set aside time for self-care and relaxation to ensure I maintain a healthy work-life balance. By carefully managing my time and prioritizing my tasks, I can avoid burnout and ensure that I am performing well in all areas of my life.

At the end of the internship, I will ask Prof. Wheeler to formally evaluate my contribution to this job. This evaluation will include a comprehensive review of my performance, the skills I have developed, and the overall impact of my work on the festival. Prof. Wheeler’s assessment will be based on specific criteria outlined at the beginning of the internship, ensuring a fair and thorough evaluation. This formal evaluation will be submitted to my course instructor to determine whether I have successfully met the requirements of the internship course and to decide my final grade.
