Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

My name is Matthew Camillo and I’m requesting a crediting standing (CR) in my STATS 263 class which I took in the fall of 2023. I’m also appealing to drop ECON 255 (Fall,2023). The reason why I’m submitting this appeal is due to a physical injury I was going through during the fall term and the rehabilitation process I was undergoing during November and December of 2023. My condition in my knee started to worsen in November and I was forced to meet with a Doctor to discuss possible therapy solutions to help ease the pain and fix what was going on. Ultimately we decided that I needed to get hyaluronic acid therapy injected into my knee. I received an injection on November 27th and another injection on December 21st. The injection was extremely painful and limited what I was able to do in my everyday life. I was unable to walk without severe pain for the following 2 weeks and my knee was in constant pain.

The specific impact this had on my ECON 255 and STATS 263 grades was that I was unable to attend any classes I had following the injection on November 27th, and the pain I was in combined with my limited mobility severely affected my physical and mental health which severely impacted my studying for my final exams resulting in me doing poorly on my final exams for ECON 255 and STATS 263. This severely affected my final grade in those courses given how heavily the final was weighted in both of those courses. Furthermore, once I was able to, I had to allocate a significant amount of my time for physiotherapy sessions and rehab on my own time. I was taking 4 courses in the fall 2023 term and given my circumstance I deferred the exam in my ECON 231 course since that was an option given by the professor, and I didn’t have a final in my ENIN 200 course. That is why I’m only appealing for ECON 255 and STATS 263. I did not drop the course earlier because my extenuating circumstance occurred after the deadline to do so. Because this extenuating circumstance was temporary, if my appeal is granted I would retake ECON 255 in the fall of 2024 without my previous grade in it affecting my GPA as well as STATS 263. I greatly appreciate your time and consideration of my situation.

All the best,
Matthew Camillo
