Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To Whom it May Concern,
I am petitioning to request a formal review of my final exam grade in BCHM 316, Winter semester. I have had an informal review completed by my instructor with a final grade in the course of 46%, and an understanding that 48.5% is accepted as a pass in BCHM courses.
The reason I am hoping to appeal this grade is that this is the last course required for my Life Sciences degree, and being only 2.5% away from a pass, I am hoping that a review of this grade may present the opportunity to graduate alongside my peers.
I have been a student at Queen’s University for 5 years and have put all of my efforts into performing well, alongside working to put myself through school. While I would not consider this to be extenuating circumstances, I did find there was a lot of struggle this year with the level of the coursework, specifically in BCHM 315 and 316, and wholeheartedly realize that I have not performed well in these courses. I am filing this petition as I believe I worked extremely hard going into the final exam, and while it was clearly not my best performance, I do know that I put in the work and am hopeful that a formal review may highlight this.
Alternatively, if I am unable to succeed with a review of this course work, I am hoping that one additional course (for a total of 9.0 credits) from the School of Nursing could be used towards my degree. As mentioned, I have taken 5 years of courses here at Queen’s and am hopeful that I might be able to graduate this Spring.
Best,
Maddi James
