Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to formally appeal for permission to add the courses PHIL 151/3.0 (Great Works of Philosophy) and WRIT 125/3.0 (Fundamentals of Academic Essay Writing) to my Summer Term course load after the official deadline. I understand that the deadline is firm, but I believe my circumstances warrant an exception as they were out of my control. I will attach my previous correspondence with the instructors for both courses, Mark Smith and Drew MacDonald, who are aware of my situation and support my petition.

Due to a financial hold on my student account, I was initially unable to enroll in any courses for the Summer Term. I paid the outstanding amount on April 9th, but despite follow-ups with the Financial Services team, the hold was only lifted on May 6th. Consequently, I was not registered for the Summer Term until May 9th, just one day before the add deadline.

By the time I gained access to course registration, many of the courses I intended to enroll in, including PHIL 151 and WRIT 125, were at full capacity. After the deadline, I noticed open spots in the courses. I only have 6.0 credits left to complete my degree requirements and graduate this fall and completing these courses in the Summer Term is essential for meeting that goal.

I respectfully request an exception to add PHIL 151 and WRIT 125 to my schedule. Dr. Smith and Dr. MacDonald have expressed willingness to support my enrolment, and I am fully committed to meeting all course requirements despite the late start.

I appreciate your understanding and consideration of my situation. My commitment to completing my degree this fall is unwavering. With the support of my instructors and the resources available to me, I am confident in my ability to overcome the late start and succeed academically. Thank you for considering my appeal to add PHIL 151 and WRIT 125 to my course load for the summer term.
