Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Academic Provost,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to formally request a grade appeal for my performance in HIST 270 during the Fall 2023 semester. Due to extenuating circumstances, I was unable to complete two of the required essays, resulting in my failure of the course despite my demonstrated understanding of the material, as evidenced by my final exam score of 91%.

Throughout the semester, I faced significant personal challenges that severely impacted my ability to meet all coursework deadlines. Although I had formal accommodations, I did not request an incomplete grade, which in hindsight, would have been the best course of action to address my situation. I acknowledge that this oversight was a mistake, and I am seeking an opportunity to rectify it.

The personal challenges I encountered were unforeseen and beyond my control. These challenges were so disruptive that, despite my best efforts, I was unable to focus adequately on my coursework. Consequently, I missed the deadlines for two major essays, which significantly impacted my overall grade in the course. These were documented and formally processed with the commerce office.

However, my performance on the final exam indicates that I have a solid understanding of the course material. Scoring 91% on the final exam suggests that, given the right support and accommodations, I am capable of completing the course requirements successfully. I am confident that with the appropriate resources and a structured plan, I can submit the missing essays and demonstrate my comprehensive understanding of the course content.

I am kindly requesting the following consideration:

Permission to Complete the Missing Essays: I seek approval to submit the two essays that I missed during the Fall 2023 semester. I am willing to adhere to a reasonable deadline for their completion.

My professor has given me permission to complete the two essays. I will attach his letter as supporting documentation.
