Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Jean Stephenson,

I am writing to respectfully request the waiving of the requirement to withdraw for one year due to unforeseen and extenuating circumstances that significantly impacted my academic pursuits. As a student, I am facing the difficult aftermath of the passing of my brother, which has necessitated frequent travel between Hamilton and Kingston. This was a recent passing of his but previously he has been very sick and was in and out of the hospital, which also caused my frequent visits from home and back, I was on track with all my assignments, and I was always keeping up with lecture notes, I may have handed some assignments late but I was always given academic accommodation and I did notify professors and teaching assistances. I am able to show proof of notes I’ve taken and assignments that I had completed along with train tickets proving my frequent visits back and forth from Hamilton to Kingston.
The loss of my brother has been profoundly distressing, and it has imposed immense emotional and logistical challenges upon me and my family. As a result, I have found myself in the position of needing to travel frequently between my family home in Hamilton and my academic residence in Kingston to provide and receive support during this difficult time.
These circumstances have inevitably disrupted my ability to fully engage in my academic responsibilities, including attending classes, completing assignments, and maintaining the necessary focus and concentration required for academic success. Despite my best efforts to balance my personal and academic commitments, the strain of grieving and travelling has taken its toll on my academic performance and overall well-being.
Given the exceptional nature of my circumstances, I am respectfully requesting that you consider waiving the requirement for me to withdraw for one year. Doing so would provide me with the opportunity to address my personal circumstances while continuing my academic pursuits without interruption. I am fully committed to resuming my studies with renewed focus and dedication once I have had the opportunity to navigate through this difficult period.
I am prepared to provide any additional documentation or information that may be required to support my request. As I don’t have formal documentation from a doctor as this has happened all so quickly, I will be able as soon as possible that this has truly significantly affected my academics. I sincerely hope that you will consider my petition favourably and grant me the opportunity to continue my academic journey without undue interruption.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to a positive resolution and am hopeful for your understanding and support during this challenging time.

Sincerely,

NiyatI Sharma.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: In my case of more severe and ongoing extenuating circumstances, I will be making major personal adjustments in order to succeed in my future studies. I have not yet registered in my desired degree plan as it hasn't been an option for me as I am in my first year of studies, I am familiar with the plan requirements and will be contacting an academic advisor to see if that is still an option for me. I am currently enrolled in 3 summer term classes, 2 of which are 6 credits and 1 is a 3-credit class, this seems to be a good work-load for me considering my circumstances and may continue taking this route if possible, I am also taking a class that is required for me to major so I can receive a better GPA and continue my desired degree plan. My strategies for success include significantly managing my time better, as I am an organized person, if an extenuating circumstance does happen in my life unexpectedly, it does take a huge toll on me and if something like this does happen in the future I would make sure to tell somebody immediately to avoid this problem occurring again. Along with going to counselling and other facilities available to me to ensure that I am getting the help I need. I don't have a problem with course content, nor do I find it hard to follow along in lectures with the added reading or complete the course work, I feel that I had something happen to me that decreased my motivation significantly which did cause me to have academic demands, but overall I feel that the course load and content being very easy to follow and I can complete it according to schedule.
