Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Sydney Kazdan, and I am an undergraduate Film and Media Studies student at Queens University. I am writing to formally request an exception to enroll in the summer course “Digital Media and Theory,” taught by Professor Philippe Gautier. Despite the deadline having passed on May 10th, this petition explains the extenuating circumstances that have led me to make this request. I will highlight below why I need to do this summer course and how it will help me reach my academic goals.

Over the past week, I have encountered some personal challenges that will significantly impact my ability to be full-time in Kingston in the fall semester. These challenges were brought to my attention recently which is why I did not enrol in the course sooner. I am hoping to adjust my fall academic plans so that I can continue my education without interruption. I have explored options and enrolling in this online summer course is the best solution. It will allow me to manage my current challenge of not being in Kingston full-time in the fall semester while continuing to progress with my degree.

This particular course “FILM 260” perfectly aligns with my academic focus of being a film and media major. Taking a course in the summer will allow me to distribute my workload more evenly. I will have no issue managing this course online this summer. Taking a summer course will allow me to manage my situation during the fall semester more effectively. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and I hope my current personal circumstances will be taken into consideration. The course has not started its learning yet so I am hopeful there is still room for one more student to join. I have previously taken a course with Professor Gautier (FILM240) and found his teaching style to be excellent and beneficial to my learning. I find the way he conducts his ONQ and online lectures to be very engaging. Having the opportunity to learn from him again would be ideal. I am a hardworking and dedicated student, and I have had no academic issues in the past in arranging my schedule and being successful in my academics. I do not anticipate further interruptions during my degree.
