Petition Letter: Wednesday, June 5, 2024

Dear Dr. Jenn Stephenson,

My name is Ana Aguirregabira (20333066) and I have completed my second year in Bachelor of Science (Honours).

I am requesting that MATH 212 (Winter, 2024) be designated as a credit (CR) standing course.

Unforeseen circumstances directly impacted my academic performance in MATH 212 due to acute physical health issues. The night before the final exam, I experienced intense stomach pain and vomiting. These symptoms persisted the following day, including when I was writing the final exam, significantly impairing my ability to concentrate and perform at my usual academic standard.

I want to clarify that none of my other exams were affected by this condition because the acute symptoms began the night before my last exam on April 23rd. I completed all my previous exams without any health issues, and my academic performance in those exams reflects my usual standards.

Since that day, I have had constant stomach issues, which may be indicative of a potential diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). I have visited my family doctor, who has requested medical testing. The results of these tests are expected to take four weeks to arrive, and I will forward them to asc.petitions@queensu.ca along with a medical letter from my family doctor as soon as possible. In the meantime, I have attached an official image of the tests that my doctor has requested.

Once I receive a diagnosis, I will take the necessary steps and medications to manage my condition so that it does not continue to affect my academic performance in the future.
