Petition Letter
Petition Letter: This petition letter is related to my requirement to withdraw from the Life Science and Biochemistry program at Queen's University for 1 year. I am writing to respectfully request a waive for my requirement to withdraw for 1 year. I previously submitted a petition, which was granted, allowing me to remain enrolled. Despite my best efforts, I am now facing another requirement to withdraw due to mental health problems. A withdrawal would significantly impact my academic journey and hinder my progress toward my goals. I am dedicated to overcoming these challenges and have looked into the Empower Me! mental health support that Queen's has in their student support. I kindly request that the commitee consider my petition to waive the requirement to withdraw for one year, allowing me to remain enrolled and continue my education without interruption. I am currently taking a summer school course in the May-June term to start getting back on track with my studies and I am committed to making the necessary improvements and ensuring that I meet the academic standards of Queen's University. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Ethan
Sincerely,
Ethan
Academic Plan
Academic Plan: I plan to continue my education in the Life science and biochemistry program and Queen's and gradute with the bachelor of science degree. I will continue my studies full-time and will take 9 units in the fall semester and review my progress to determine whether I will be able to take on more credits in the winter semester. I am currently enrolled in Math 121 in the May-June summer term to get back on track with my studies. I will need to take BIOL 103 and CHEM 112 in the fall semester and will take an different elective due to the second year courses needing prerequisites that I may not have. A challenge I faced in the previous year was due to personal mental health issues. I plan to combat this by utilizing the Empower me! service provided my Queen's and overcoming the conflicts I have. I will be creating a study schedule and dedicate time for each subject and seek help from academic advisors and tutors to help monitor my progress and help reinforce my understanding on the topics. I will also contact the acadmic support offered my Queen's and seek guidance from academic advisors to enure that I align with academic goals. I will also need to review my progress towards my goals and be flexible and willing to adjust my plan if certain strategies are not working.

Decision(s) Being Appealed: Waive the requirement to withdraw for one year
Appeal Grounds
Appeals to the Board of Studies must include a letter based on one or more of the Grounds for Appeal (Appeal Regulation 3.4). What are the grounds you are basing your appeal on?
- The Associate Dean's decision did not follow the rules of procedural fairness. A breach of procedural fairness includes such things as the Associate Dean failed to:
- Make a reasonable decision in your appeal. A “reasonable” decision is one that is based on evidence, thought out and supported by facts and logical inferences from the facts. To be reasonable, the decision must contain adequate reasons for the conclusions.
Appeal Grounds Details: I believe that the associate dean's decision was fair and there was made decision his decision based on evidence he had. I am writing this letter asking for the petition to be re-evulated. I understand that the requirement to withdraw is not seen as a punishment, but rather a time for me to reflect. I have made better changes to myself and will show improvements on my academic performances. The requirement to withdraw for 1 year will not only halt my academic progress, but seeing as I have already signed a lease for another year to stay in kingston I will also be set back financially. I am asking for another chance to attend school in september for the fall semester. I can guarantee improvements will be shown in the first term, to prove that I am focused and determined to better my academic career.
Appeal Letter
Appeal Letter: I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this in the hopes of appealing the denial of my appeal to waive the requirement withdraw. I understand that the 1 year requirement to withdraw is not intended to be punitive but instead be a time for me to reflect on my learning journey. I believe that allowing me to return to school in the upcoming semester will allow me to continue my education without further interruptions. I kindly ask you to reconsider my appeal and grant me the opportunity to return to school. I am prepared to follow any additional requirements or conditions the school may require that I follow. Please give me this second chance and review how my first semester goes, I can guarantee changes to my academic performances and am dedicated to bettering myself and overcoming past challenges. I am eager and hopeful to prove my commitment to my education and to the school’s community. Thank you for your time and consideration.
