Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Over the course of these courses I was facing many psychological issues including depression and anxiety. I did not have accommodations through ventus as I do now which I received in March 2024 . There was not a specific assignment or exam that was effected by this as these issues were effecting me throughout the entirety of the course in random waves of severity. This effected many things from small things like missing a class due to the anxiety of being around a large group of people to larger things like me spending days on end stuck in bed without doing anything at all even though I knew I had stuff do to that I wanted to do as well. The main reason for my extremely poor performance in my Winter 2024 courses is because I was planning on committing suicide as issues with my life combined with the constant poor grades over the past semesters. My parents realized something was off with me and during the February 2024 reading week I went to the hospital which i currently am I still working with. I finally decided to get help and have been working on these psychological issues with the hospital near my house which has helped me get medication I needed as well as helped me get accommodations at Queens. As for the one year withdrawal I believe I should not have to withdrawal as I have been improving and working on my psychological issues and I know that it will reflect in my future grades and I know that taking a year off of school will push me back into the mental place I was before.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: For my future studies I plan on continuing my plan on getting my degree majoring in econ as it is something I do find interesting. I believe having the accommodations I have now as well as my improved mental psych I will be able to continue on a full course load. I plan on continuing meeting with the medical professionals at my local hospital through their mental health outreach program as well as I plan to use the Queen's mental health support that is available to me the reason I did use these resources before is because I was deeply ashamed of my mental issues. With this support around me that I have now, I know going forward I will perform academically at a much higher level as I am now able to ask for help instead of just being stuck in a pit of anxiety and despair.

I plan to retake the required economics courses this upcoming semester and taking courses during the summer so that I can still graduate in 2026. The past year and a half is not a reflection of my true self.
