Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am writing to request permission to drop some of my courses after the deadline due to numerous extenuating circumstances. These events have significantly impacted my ability to keep up with my course requirements.
In September, I went to Bader College with the intention of staying for a year. However, due to structural issues with the castle I was studying in, all the students, including myself, were deported back to Canada. This sudden relocation caused me significant stress and was a very abrupt change. Despite being granted an extension by my teacher, I was unable to complete my assignments on time due to having to resolve various issues, particularly those related to financial pressure from my mother. This ultimately led to my failure in the course.
During the second semester, it became increasingly difficult for me to keep up with my courses and prepare for my exams. The transition from Bader to the main campus was confusing, especially the organization of OnQ, although I eventually adapted.
In February, I was raped by one of my best friends at the time. This traumatic event severely impacted my mental health and disrupted my ability to study, particularly affecting my sleep schedule. Although I struggled to deal with the situation, I have been able to begin healing and moving on. While I did not pursue legal action, I can provide supporting evidence if necessary (mostly screenshots of texts).
Just as I was beginning to recover, my situation with my mother escalated significantly, causing further stress. She attempted to steal my laptop (which I use for school) and cut me off financially by taking my cards and all the money she had given me. I was unable to buy groceries and often went without eating. Additionally, she would randomly show up at my house, threaten me by email, follow me, and stay on campus (such as at the ARC) for hours just to see me. This made it extremely difficult to focus on my studies, particularly as I was taking steps to cut her out of my life completely. I am currently attending counseling sessions to address this issue. I also applied for a peace bond against her, which was rejected because I needed to apply for a restraining order due to the seriousness of the situation. While she has not tried to contact me since April, I have attached my signed peace bond application for your reference.
I am feeling much better now and have all the support I need to ensure that my future academic performance will no longer be affected. I am committed to getting back on track. I will redo PSYC 100 to be able to follow my initial plan. Thank you for considering my request.
