Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To Whom it may concern,
My name is Tina Cheung and I just completed my second year of my undergraduate degree in the faculty of Arts and Science. I am writing an appeal for my continuation of my studies at Queen¿¿s University next year. I understand that the minimum requirement to continue studying is a GPA of at least a 0.7, however due to certain circumstances, I was not able to reach the required grades.
The reason this happened was due to the amount of stress I was dealing with this past year, regarding my housemates, my workload, as well as my parents. Although I managed to obtain passing grades on my midterms during the fall semester, the turn of events in the winter semester caused me to become unable to maintain my academic performance. I thought I could deal with the situation on my own, but everything built up so fast that I was too overwhelmed and upset to even take the step of contacting the counselling service. I was unable to properly cope with my overwhelming stress, unable to properly take care of myself, and eventually, it led to my housemates having to care for my basic needs. I did not have a support group with whom I could talk to about my problems, and this had a great impact on me, leading to my poor work ethics. Although I studied extremely hard for my finals, I was unable to achieve a GPA that satisfied a 0.7. Near the end of the semester, I was able to make an appointment with Dr. Arunima to discuss the problems I had experienced during the second half of the school year, as I was unable to see her during the semester, due to being extremely overwhelmed. I told her I do not wish to continue allowing stress to be a hindrance in my academic performance, as I believe that while these problems cannot be completely avoided, if they are dealt with properly, my marks in my studies will improve and continue to remain at a satisfactory grade. She advised me to talk to Student Services, and after doing so, I have a better understanding of what I can do next year to improve and achieve higher than a 0.7 So that is my goal in the upcoming year, if I can continue to study at Queen¿¿s.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: I aim to find a proper support group at school, with whom I can reach out to in my desperate times of need, in order to properly deal with my stress and emotions so that I will be able to maintain my grades and not fall behind in assignments and deadlines. I wish to drop the courses that I have failed during this school year, however in doing so, I will also retake courses from this year, and try my hardest to achieve a passing grade. As well, I will take fewer courses during a semester to better focus on studying and reviewing materials, as well as allowing myself to stay stress free and perform better. Going through this past year, I have a better understanding of how to properly manage my mental health, as well as being committed to being academically successful. That way, I can be in optimal shape to continue pursing my Bachelor¿¿s Degree here at Queen¿¿s University.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this appeal. I guarantee that I will uphold to the ways that I have detailed in this letter to strive towards the academic goals that I¿¿ve set. I hope to continue to be able to study here at Queen¿¿s University this coming 2015 fall term.
Regards,
Tina Hiu Yan Cheung
