Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Petition Board,
I am submitting this petition due to the aggressive harassment and bullying that I experienced during April. Something out of my control had happened and a rumour was spread all over my floor and campus through the internet. I had lost all my friends and everything I had accumulated throughout the year. I would meet people for the first time to have them avoid me once they had found out who I was. I would be kicked out of parties for the same reasons as well. These people who spread the rumour would constantly verbally abuse me on my floor, outside of my room.
They would also frequently bang on my door and run away while I was trying to study for exams and would put hateful notes on my door and all over my building.
I have never experienced anything like this before and it was by far the lowest point of my life. I had no friends and it was near impossible for me to gain any. I had had constant suicidal thoughts during this period.
At the time I was under incredible academic pressure. I had been sick with the stomach flu during my MATH 112 midterm which resulted in my final being 80% of my mark.
Because of the intense depression that I was feeling as well as the constant disturbances while trying to study, I was not able to perform anywhere close to how I am normally able, and the 80% exam had amplified that.
Through the extreme pressure to spend every minute of my day studying as well as the incredible stigma that was related to my issue, I had decided not to talk to a counsellor at the time. Due to all the abuse, I was embarrassed and almost convinced that I was in the wrong.
This was my first opportunity to talk to Peter after exams as since the end of the semester I have been planting trees in Thunder Bay.
My father is insistent on the fact that I need to maintain a high GPA for his funding to be a safe investment. He does not believe that I will be able to get a job otherwise because he believes that there is too much competition. He has made it clear that he will no longer pay for my school if I cannot meet his expectations.
I will have attached Peter's letter of support. I hope I am in your sympathy.
Sincerely,
Andre
