Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear the Associate Dean,

I am writing to formally request a late drop for the course PSYC 397. After careful consideration, I have decided to drop my minor in Psychology, and as such, I do not feel that completing this course is beneficial to my future academic success.

Throughout this semester, I have enjoyed the material presented in PSYC 397 and have gained valuable insights. However, my academic focus has shifted significantly. My primary major requires a substantial commitment, and the additional coursework from the Psychology minor is proving to be more of a burden than a benefit. Continuing with PSYC 397 would detract from my ability to excel in my major-specific courses, which are directly aligned with my future career aspirations.

Moreover, I recently sustained a broken arm, which has severely impacted my ability to complete the coursework for PSYC 397. The injury has limited my ability to take notes, participate in hands-on activities, and complete assignments in a timely manner. Despite my best efforts to keep up with the course requirements, the physical limitations imposed by my injury have made it increasingly challenging to maintain the level of academic performance that I strive for.

I have consulted with my academic advisor and the course instructor regarding my situation. Both have acknowledged the difficulties I am facing and support my decision to request a late drop. My advisor has helped me to understand that focusing on my primary major and reducing my course load is the best course of action to ensure my academic success and overall well-being.

In light of these circumstances, I respectfully request that my petition for a late drop from PSYC 397 be granted. I believe this decision is in my best interest and will allow me to concentrate on my major coursework and recover fully from my injury without the added stress of managing an additional course.
