RE: Petition For Late Course Drop



Dear Associate Dean Stephenson’s,

My name is Shaney Nelson, and I am writing to petition for a late course drop for Math 121 and PSYC 100 for the 2023-24 academic school year as per advised by my academic advisor. If you look at my record, you’ll see I struggled financially during my first and second year. Every day all I thought about was how I would be able to afford my studies, which severely impacted me mentally. And despite that fact, I was unable to drop Math 121 and PSYC 100 before the deadline because I wholeheartedly believed that I could have done well in both courses since it was my second time retaking them.

As per the university’s regulations I know you can’t just drop those courses because I overestimated myself and because of financial issues but Dr. Stephenson's, I would really like to be able to major in biology and finish on time if possible, even if it means I must enroll in every summer course there is available. Having to withdraw for 1 year has really made me realize this is not the kind of student I am or want to be.

Please, please, please, give me a chance to improve my gpa and be able to participate in the program/plan selection for upcoming year by dropping those two courses. And I will take this time off to significantly improve my financial situation and as a student.
