Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

My name is Zhe Wang, and my student ID is 20304717. I am requesting an exception to take more than 6.0 units of courses through ILOP.

Please consider my situation below.
During my sophomore year, I faced academic probation due to poor academic performance. The combined pressures of my studies and family issues caused me significant anxiety. However, I discovered that my proficiency in Japanese was much better than I had anticipated. This realization motivated me to switch my major to LLCU in my junior year. I found that I was well-suited for this field, and my term GPA of 3.62 in the second half of my junior year further encouraged me to pursue deeper academic endeavors.

As part of the LLCU program requirements, I need to complete 6 units of 200-level and 6 units of 300-level LLCU language courses. I consulted with Professor Aoi, who teaches Japanese 100 and 200 level courses, and heard that our university has not offered 300-level Japanese courses for a long time. This was a significant setback for me, as not being able to take 300-level Japanese courses means I cannot complete my undergraduate studies within four years. However, I learned from the LLCU Office that I could take the 300-level Japanese course requirement through ILOP since our university does not offer it. As I have already taken more than 6 units of ILOP courses, I am seeking your approval to complete my remaining coursework through ILOP.

Having experienced multiple failures in my economics courses, I have gained valuable experience, and do not want to waste the credits I have earned in the economics program. Therefore, I have decided to take a minor in economics. To complete my economics minor, I only need one more course at any level in the economics department. I plan to take Econ 290 in the fall of 2024. Additionally, due to my low overall GPA, I intend to undertake an internship in the winter of 2025 to enhance my soft skills. However, I found that Econ 290 is only offered in the winter, and I do not wish to handle the pressure of multiple courses alongside my internship. Hence, I am applying to take Econ 290 through ILOP in the fall of 2024.

I think my off-campus plan(ILOP) could boost my on-campus studies and make a progress in my academic process.

Thank you for your consideration,

Kindly regards,

Zhe Wang

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: According to my What-if advisement report, my total graduation credits is 120 credits. My completed and my planned course credits are 111 totally. Then just 9 credits(3 courses) are unsatisfied.
As part of the LLCU and Econ program requirement, I need to complete 6 units of 300-level LLCU language courses and 3 units of Econ of 200-level course.

I have already enrolled in four core and option courses for LLCU in both the fall of 2024 and the winter of 2025. My plan is to take Japn 301 and Econ 290 through ILOP in the fall of 2024, and take Japn 302 at Queen in the winter of 2025 to complete my undergraduate studies. I hope you can approve my request.

Thank you for your consideration,

Kindly regards,

Zhe Wang
