Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Academic Plan: In order to complete my degree requirements, I must complete a course load across four years that adds up to 120.0 units. At the beginning of my third year, I have completed 60 units with a remaining 60 needed. My major plan requires me to take 120 units in Sociology. I have already taken 21.0 units worth of SOCY courses, meaning I need 21 units from the SOCY 200 level or above and I need to complete 15 units from the SOCY 300 level or above. I plan to take SOC30270, SOC30580, SOC30380, and SOC30750 at UCD as apart of my major plan. The completion of these courses would bring me 20.0 completed Sociology courses, completing the 15 units needed in SOCY 300 level or above. Thus, keeping me on track to complete the 6.0 units needed in SOCY 400 level in my 4th year at Queen’s University in fall of 2025. In theory, these would both fit into my required core SOCY courses should they be approved in my ILOP.

Of the 42.00 option courses I need, I have taken 3.00 and need another 39.00, which will be completed during my first semester of third year at Queen’s University; studying abroad; as well as in my fourth year of study. With the approval of this ILOP, I will need to take five more SOCY courses with various requirements, and five more option courses, generating two five course semesters, such has been the case for every other year of my studies at Queen's. Thus, this means that I am on track to graduate with 120.0 units at the end of my fourth year of study. I have yet to fail a course and have exercised successful academic practices up to this point, which I intend to continue. I understand that although the courses I submit through my ILOP may be approved, they might not be approved under the constraints of the Sociology programs at Queen's. If so, the selected courses can all be listed as elective courses that would still contribute to my graduation at the end of my fourth year of study with 120.0 completed units. Should any challenges arise with the fulfilment of my plan, I am fully prepared to take on an inflated course load during the 2025 summer, 2025 fall, and 2026 winter semesters in order to complete the required units on time. Given the courses I have completed, along with those I plan to take at University College Dublin in the winter semester of 2025 and at Queen's University during the fall and winter semesters of 2025/2026, I remain on track to graduate on schedule and achieve my goals.
