Petition Letter

Petition Letter: My name is Carly Rosenbusch, and I am entering my third year of life sciences at Queen's University. Studying abroad has always been a dream of mine, particularly at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). The rich cultural and academic opportunities offered there would significantly enhance my educational experience.

I am eager to enroll in the following courses:

1. Politics of the Developing World
2. Spanish Contemporary Art
3. Urban Interventions: Graffiti & Public Sculpture
4. Intercultural Communication
5. Modernism

While I understand the current regulations limit students to 6.0 units abroad, I believe this restriction would hinder my ability to fully immerse myself in the unique offerings at UAB. Each of these courses has been carefully selected to complement my academic goals and enrich my understanding of both my major and the world.

I respectfully request an exemption from the 6.0 unit limit to allow me to pursue these courses. This opportunity is truly once in a lifetime, and I am confident it will profoundly impact my academic and personal growth.

Thank you for considering my request. I look forward to your response.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: Academic Plan for Study Abroad at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB)

As an ambitious life sciences student entering my third year at Queen's University, I am seeking an exemption from the 6.0 unit limit to fully immerse myself in the rich academic and cultural environment at UAB. The courses I intend to take will complement my major and broaden my academic horizon.

Academic Goals:
- Broaden Academic Perspective: Enhance my understanding of global political dynamics, cultural expressions, and modern artistic movements, which will complement my primary focus in life sciences.
- Interdisciplinary Learning: Gain insights from various disciplines to develop a holistic approach to problem-solving and critical thinking.
- Cultural Immersion: Improve my intercultural communication skills and cultural competence, which are essential in today's globalized world.

Plan for Achieving Academic Success:
1. Course Load Management:
- Balanced Schedule: Distribute my workload evenly across the semester to ensure that I can manage the additional courses without compromising my performance in life sciences.

2. Academic Support:
- Regular Meetings with Advisors: Schedule meetings with my academic advisor at Queen's University to discuss my progress, challenges, and any necessary adjustments to my study plan.
- Tutoring and Study Groups: Engage in tutoring sessions and form study groups with fellow students at UAB to reinforce my understanding of the material and foster collaborative learning.

3. Time Management:
- Detailed Study Schedule: Create a weekly study schedule that allocates specific times for attending classes, studying, completing assignments, and participating in extracurricular activities.
- Avoid Procrastination: Use tools like planners and digital calendars to stay organized and avoid last-minute rushes.

4. Health and Well-being:
- Maintain Regular Exercise: Incorporate regular physical activity into my routine to manage stress and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
- Seek Counseling if Needed: Access mental health resources available at UAB to address any emotional or psychological challenges that may arise during my time abroad.

5. Academic Resources:
- Library and Online Resources: Utilize the extensive library and online resources available at UAB to support my coursework and research projects.
- Language Support: Take advantage of language support services to improve my proficiency in Spanish, which will aid in better understanding course material and integrating into the local culture.

By implementing this academic plan, I am confident that I will be able to successfully manage the increased course load and make the most of the unique learning opportunities at UAB. This experience will not only enhance my academic portfolio but also contribute significantly to my personal and professional development.

Thank you for considering my request.

Sincerely,
Carly Rosenbusch
