Petition Letter: Hello Petition Committee,
My name is Brooke Ruest and I am going into my fourth year here at Queen's University. I am writing to you today to discuss dropping the due date so I can petition to get my grades from my first year and the first semester of my second year to not count towards my GPA or to be dropped as they are significantly hurting my GPA. I would be eligible for this due to the fact that I had undiagnosed ADHD during those semesters and had not been managing it in the most efficient way. Once I started medication, changed my major, and used some tools avaliable at Queen's for students, my grades improved in a linear progression. At the time I wasn't aware that I could petition to drop those grades due to extenuating circumstances and just recently became aware of this process; however, very recently after my grandmother and my uncle, who I was very close with, both passed away very close to one another. Right now my first year and the first semester of my second year has been causing many problems for me academically due to my academic probation status. Therefore, by allowing the deadline to be dropped, I can plead my case and hopefully continue on at Queen's without the restrictions placed on me considering my academic probation. This being said, by granting this petition to drop the deadline and allowing me to explain my situation, not only would by GPA improve significantly, but the motivation to continue on as a student at Queen's. If you have any questions or need anything from my end please let me know. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Brooke Ruest
