Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing to formally request the withdrawal from GLPH 271, which I was enrolled in during the summer of 2024, and to seek permission to retake the course in the Winter 2025 semester.

On July 11, 2024, I sustained a concussion and was admitted to Kingston General Hospital overnight. The following day, I sought further evaluation in Toronto due to worsening symptoms. These included limited movement on the left side of my neck and below, persistent headaches, difficulty sleeping, challenges with screen use, and heightened sensitivity to sounds.
At Kingston General Hospital, I did not receive any formal doctor's note because I was a student therefore my parents took me to the North York General Hospital( Toronto) where I got a more thorough evaluation. These symptoms significantly impacted my ability to engage effectively with an online course and required me to attend additional therapies for recovery.

Moreover, the concussion exacerbated my mental health, leading to further declines in my overall well-being and academic performance. Despite consulting QSAS for academic accommodations, these were not implemented until August 27, 2024, due to extended appointment wait times.

Given the ongoing difficulties I have faced in managing my coursework, I believe that withdrawing from the course and retaking it in the Winter 2025 semester will provide me with the necessary time to recover fully and engage with the course material effectively.
