Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing today to request your permission to switch my major area of study. I would like to transfer from Political Science into Film and Media. Over the past week, I have had an overwhelming feeling that I am studying a subject area that is not of interest to me. I have felt anxious, nervous and sad since school has started. As a result, I have had difficulty focusing in lectures and have had trouble retaining information from the readings and lectures. I am hoping to add these two FILM courses so that I can major in Film and Media.
I recently reached out to an academic counsellor for assistance with my struggles and while the information provided was useful, I have come to realize that my difficulties in class are really the result of wanting to be studying something else. I have been in tears with my parents over my academic career path that is not of interest to me. I have become unmotivated and have had an overwhelming desire to go home. I have also reached out to my family doctor at home and have an appointment to discuss my difficulties in lectures, my anxiety and my sadness- that appointment is set for September 30th.
I truly believe that I need a change in what I am studying to be more in line with my interests and to be in line with what really excites me. I am a creative person who loves film, media, photography and marketing. I would love the opportunity to switch into Film and Media as my major and I am confident that I would thrive academically if I was given permission to transfer into this area. I am certain that I would be focused and motivated if I had the opportunity to study in what I have come to realize is my passion.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: I recently met with an academic counselor for assistance with study and organizational skills. She offered great advice and suggestions about balancing my course load while prioritizing my mental health which I will use to ensure I can effectively catch up in my film classes. I plan to speak with TAs in both classes regularly to ensure I am not behind on course content. When I met with Alicia Kupinski in the Department of Film and Media, she suggested that if I am granted permission to drop 2 Political Studies classes and pick up 2 Film and Media classes as well as winter term Film classes, I would be on track to graduate in four years. I am confident that I will work hard to catch up on missed coursework to meet my academic goals.
