Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am writing to respectfully petition for permission to enroll in an additional course for the current semester. After a recent consultation with an academic advisor, it has become clear that I am significantly further behind in my degree progression than I initially believed. This realization, which came after the deadline to add or drop courses, has left me in a difficult position as I plan for the remainder of my academic journey.
One of the primary factors impacting my current situation is my commitment to an upcoming exchange program, which is of great personal and academic importance to me. This exchange is integral to my growth and is an opportunity I cannot forgo, but it does add some complexity to the remainder of my course planning. Additionally, I am pursuing a Certificate of Business, which requires extra coursework alongside my degree. This certificate is valuable for my future career aspirations but also places additional demands on my course load.
The unforeseen nature of these academic challenges has made it difficult to organize my course schedule in a timely manner. I was unaware of my course deficiency until after the add/drop deadline, and as I now plan for the future, I realize that not taking an extra course this semester will severely limit my ability to graduate on time or if I do complete my required credits next year will be extremely challenging, which may effect my grades.
I am committed to resolving this situation and have been proactive in assessing my remaining course load to ensure that I can meet all my degree requirements. However, I find myself in need of this additional course now to avoid complications next year. I respectfully ask for your understanding and approval of this petition to allow me to take on the extra course this semester.
Thank you for your time and consideration of my petition. I am confident that with this adjustment, I will be able to successfully balance my academic commitments.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: I’ve devised the following academic plan should my petition be granted. This plan will allow me to balance my coursework, exchange, and Certificate of Business while staying on track for degree completion.
Course Selection: If my petition is approved, I plan to add either GPHY 228 or WRIT 250 to my current course load. I am planning on switching into ECON-APEC, as I am now in just ECON-BAH. I feel my progress with the business certificate and the course options in APEC are better suited for me. These courses align with the list of APEC requirements and will help reduce the course load I will need to manage next year. On exchange I plan to take:
1-2 ECON courses (at least 1 at 300-level)
3-4 electives
(they have been approved in my petition for that and I am in discussions with my undergarduate chair and the international exchange office to sort all of this out)
Therefore next year I will need to complete:
1 more APEC or any econ (if this is approved)
1 econ 300 level and above (after at least 1 on exchange)
4 4th year courses required
3 electives
2 of my remaining business certificate courses
I then would be enrolled in 6 courses each semester, I may opt to take 1-2 courses in the summer. Overall, without adding one of these courses this semester it would be an even more stressful course load next year. I am also open to taking an online elective(can be discussed) this semester if these courses are unavailable, but would preferably take one of these.
Time Management: I will ensure that I allocate appropriate time for each course, using a structured weekly study schedule. This will allow me to balance my academic obligations with personal responsibilities.
Use of Support Resources: I will continue to seek guidance from my academic advisor and take advantage of available campus resources, including tutoring and writing support, to maintain strong academic performance.
By following this plan, I am confident that I will be able to manage my academic responsibilities and successfully complete my degree.
