Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello Dr. Stephenson, and the dean’s office. My name is Isaiah Martinez, I have just started my fifth year as a life sciences student here at Queens University. I am writing today to formally request your permission and help to place me in a discover lab (DISC 598/99) for the fall and winter terms.
Due to a late start with my student administrative duties this year, I fell behind in the first week and was unable to enroll in any classes after the 1st of September. There was a hold on my SOLUS account that needed to be resolved before I could complete enrollment. Additionally, I had some personal and familial matters to address, which further contributed to the delay. Throughout this time, one of my peers had mentioned this discovery lab during class and it sparked my interest, especially due to the fact that I have the pleasure of being taught by them in my other classes After discussing this course and its details in more depth with Dr. Hindmarch, I decided this is something I am very interested in pursuing.
As I have now reached my fifth year, I am looking to find something that sets me up and prepares me for my future. I believe this course will help me develop great, applicable skills, it will bring me closer with like-minded peers and instructors and provide invaluable experience in the field of research.
I understand this may require me to restructure my class schedule and I am hoping this can be accommodated also. Thank you for taking the time to read my petition, I am very grateful for your considerations.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: An academic plan is something that is very important to me as I have struggled in the past. My five years has been filled with many highs and many lows. This year however is different for me. I have come in fresh with a completely new attitude and plan to hold myself accountable everywhere.
I plan on using my resources that the faculty provides, whether this means weekly check ups with professors, and councilors I am committed to being successful. I believe having the professors teach me in other courses will also help me stay on track, it gives me the opportunity to discuss my work with them at different times throughout the week and stay up to date. I will set weekly and monthly goals as well to make sure I am constantly working towards something.
This course does not just give me great experience in the field of research, or help me build team based lab skills. It also fulfils my credit standing with the school. This course facilitates graduation for me and can help set up amazing opportunities after it ends. Adding this course, and subsequently dropping 2 to make it fit, will also help me with work load and juggling all of my classes. This would allow me to put more focus in every direction and promote academic success.
Lastly, this course aligns with my passions. Whether it is neurotech, physiology, or microbiology I am doing something I enjoy, and something very fulfilling. This makes it even easier to do, it would be a privilege.
Thank you once again for taking the time to read.
Sincerely,
Isaiah
