Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I’m writing to formally petition to add CISC 124 for the 2024 fall term after the official deadline for adding classes. This request is due to an unexpected finding of academic integrity against me for a course I had already completed. I am currently appealing this decision, as I fully deny the findings and believe that if I am found innocent, it would be unjust to face any penalties or financial consequences related to this situation.
The Request:
I am requesting permission to add CISC 124 now, even though I am past the official add deadline, to ensure I have a path forward in case the academic integrity appeal does not resolve in my favor. At the same time, I would like to ask for flexibility regarding this course’s deadlines and fees until a final decision on my appeal is made.
Explanation of Extenuating Circumstances:
The timing of this situation has placed me in a difficult position. I had completed the previous course in good standing when I was unexpectedly found in breach of academic integrity after the term ended. I am actively appealing the decision, but the process is likely to take a significant amount of time to conclude. I don’t want to be left without options if the appeal goes on longer than expected or does not go in my favor.
However, starting the new course so late in the semester puts me at a major disadvantage, and I don’t feel it is fair to have to start catching up while my status is still in limbo. If I begin now, I’ll be roughly a month behind, making it difficult to catch up and complete the course successfully. On the other hand, if I wait too long and my appeal is denied, I could end up too far behind to realistically finish. I want to avoid a situation where I’m set up for failure or have to drop the course and pay additional fees if I’m found innocent.
Request for Guidance and Flexibility:
Given this unique situation, I would greatly appreciate your guidance on how to proceed. Specifically, I’m looking for advice on:
• Whether adding the course now is the best option given the current timeline and the fact that I’m already behind.
• Whether any accommodations can be made for my situation, such as deadline extensions or waiving the drop fee if my appeal is successful.
• Any other suggestions you might have that could allow me to complete the course fairly, depending on the outcome of my appeal.
I want to emphasize that I am committed to maintaining academic integrity and simply want to be given a fair chance to continue my education without being penalized unnecessarily.
